Incredible Jack Review

Incredible Jack is a funny action platformer from Chillingo. Your goal is to survive enemies, helping Jack rescue his family by exploring side-scrolling worlds and solving puzzles.

I’m a ‘glass is half full’ kind of chap, I really am. I try to find the positives in most things in life, including this game. Sometimes, though, you just need to cut your losses and admit defeat. And that’s what I’m doing now. I give in. I can’t do it. This game is crap.

There, I’ve said it. It’s not a particularly pretty or great way to start a review I know, but I thought for this one I would just skip to the end and save you the bother of having to read this just to find out if it’s a good game or not. It’s not. If you want to find out why it is such an utterly awful game then please feel free to read on. If you are thinking of buying this game and want an opinion before you do then you’ve just had it. It’s crap, and that’s all you really need to know.

Disclaimer: Not Amazing

To start with the story is completely bonkers. I don’t mean funny/amusing bonkers, I mean ridiculous/I’d rather you hadn’t bothered bonkers. “The goodies used to be greedy but then they had children” is something a 7 year old would think up. Perhaps this game was actually conceived by a child. It would certainly explain some of the short comings.

In terms of gameplay Incredible Jack is the video game equivalent of painting by numbers. It is completely devoid of anything novel or interesting. You have to run along collecting coins (good one, not seen that before), jumping on various baddies (really stretching the boat now) to reach the end of the level as quickly as possible. At the end of each level you are judged on how well you did and get marked out of three stars (yawn!!). Srsly?

Evil Schmevil.

The controls are pretty awful too. You get a left, right and a jump; all too frequently though I found myself going in the wrong direction as my left thumb hadn’t quite made the correct contact with the screen. And no prizes for guessing what happens when you go left when you want to go right.

I really cannot find anything positive to say about this game. Everything about it sucks, from the idea to the gameplay and everything in between.
